Learn more about West Ashley, SC

Actually, West Ashley, or as it is more properly known, West of the Ashley, is a thriving Charleston neighborhood situated on "the other side" of the Ashley River and is not a separate city in and of itself. In reality, of the city's 120,000+ inhabitants, its citizens make up nearly half. The Ashley and Stono Rivers surround West Ashley, which is also distinguished by its renowned ancient oak trees covered in moss. The city's first neighborhoods were built in the 1950s, and the 1970s and 1980s saw the city's greatest boom. With the construction of Interstate 526 in the early 1980s and the Glenn McConnell Parkway in the 1990s, its business and residential attractiveness skyrocketed. In addition to large box stores and its own "auto mile," it now features cozy neighborhoods, hip shops, and restaurants. In addition to outstanding natural beauty, West Ashley has a significant amount of history. There is also where Charles Towne Landing is located, along with Middleton Place, Ashley Hall, and Magnolia Plantation.
