The South Carolina Aquarium, in Charleston, South Carolina, opened on the historic Charleston Harbor on May 19, 2000. North American river otters, loggerhead sea turtles, alligators, great blue herons, owls, lined seahorses, jellyfish, pufferfish, green moray eels, horseshoe crabs, sea stars, pythons, and sharks are among the more than ten thousand plants and creatures that call it home.

How long does it take to visit the Aquarium? Many visitors spend two or more hours at the Aquarium. Allow at least 90 minutes to see all of the exhibits the Aquarium has to offer. All visitors are welcome to stay until 5 p.m. when our building shuts. everyday.

Is it worthwhile to go to the South Carolina Aquarium?

The aquarium is stunning, entertaining, and informative. We spent around 3 hours there, although we could easily have spent longer if we had read all of the information in each exhibit. The animals have plenty of room, which is wonderful to witness.


Is there a shark at the South Carolina Aquarium?

No worries, shark fans: you can still get up up and personal with sharks in the second-floor Touch Tank exhibit, which houses chain dogfish. Also, keep an eye out from afar for our larger sharks as they gently glide around the Great Ocean Tank.
