Naval Support Activity Charleston, formerly known as Naval Weapons Station Charleston, is a US Navy installation in the communities of Goose Creek and Hanahan, South Carolina, on the west side of the Cooper River. More than 17,000 acres of land, 10,000 acres of woodland and wetlands, 16 miles of waterfront, four deep-water piers, 38.2 miles of railroad, and 292 kilometres of road make up the base.


What types of aircraft are stationed at Joint Base Charleston?

The 437 AW and 315 AW (Associate) currently fly the C-17 Globemaster III, and the base has also served as an alert location for Tactical Air Command (TAC) and Air Combat Command (ACC) fighter-interceptor aircraft undertaking the continental air defense role.


Is it possible for civilians to visit Joint Base Charleston?

Starting today, July 24, 2020, inhabitants of Joint Base Charleston will be able to sponsor visitors to their homes. Guests are only permitted to visit the sponsor's residence due to COVID-19 regulations. On Joint Base Charleston, all other places are off-limits.


What is the mission of Joint Base Charleston?

They transport armored vehicles, medical personnel, paratroopers, and freight to locations where they are needed. Over 60 mission partners and 90,000 service members, retirees, and families are served by the 628th Air Base Wing and the Naval Support Activity.
