Mold spores are everywhere in the air. Mold is everywhere in our environment and begins to grow when airborne spores land in areas that remain wet constantly. Twenty-four to 48 hours after mold spores land on moisture, mold begins to grow. Any mold growing in your home is cause for concern and should be removed.

What happens if mold gets in the air?

We breathe in mold spores every day. Usually, these spores don't cause health problems, but people with respiratory disease or weakened immune systems are at an elevated risk of developing breathing issues. Some molds can trigger an allergic reaction or cause an infection in your lungs.

Can mold in the air make you sick?

For people sensitive to mold, inhaling or touching mold spores can cause allergic reactions, including sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, and skin rash. People with serious mold allergies may have more severe reactions, including shortness of breath.

Can mold grow in your lungs?

The mold spores can colonize (grow) inside lung cavities that developed as a result of chronic diseases, such tuberculosis, emphysema, or advanced sarcoidosis. The fibers of fungus might form a lump by combining with white blood cells and blood clots.

Can mold floating in the air?

Mold spores are in the air and on all surfaces. Mold spores are very tiny and light-weight so they float in the air for a long time. Common places to find mold growth are in the bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) unit.

What causes black mold on air vents?

Mold in air ducts most commonly occurs when there is moisture inside the ductwork. As cool air flows through the vents on hot days, the moisture in the air can condense inside the air vent.
